Former Formula One champion Jody Scheckter's 1979-winning car was sold at an RM Sotheby's auction in Monaco for the whopping sum of over R150 million this past weekend.

The 74-year-old South African entered 12 cars from his personal collection into RM Sotheby's Monaco sale, including his 1979 Ferrari 312 T4, which Scheckter drove in nine races and won three Grands Prix titles.

Scheckter, who was born in East London, was in attendance in Monaco and said a few words on rostrum, as he decided to part with the cars that he had owned for decades.
