Civic group MyVoteCounts has launched an urgent court bid to overturn and declare unconstitutional the Electoral Matters Amendment Act, which effectively opens the gates for political parties to receive funding without disclosing its sources.
On Friday, the organisation approached the Western Cape High Court to declare it unconstitutional - a day after President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the bill into law.
In its founding affidavit, Qaasim Akbar Ganey, a lawyer representing MyVoteCounts, said the main bone of contention was the commencement of the legislation on 8 May.
