  • Phat Joe denied eviction reports in a recent interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG.
  • He said the settlement was that they would vacate the place at the end of May or by 1 June.
  • When News24 reached out for comment on the eviction reports being made, the radio personality labelled it "an attempt to defame him."

Radio and TV personality Phat Joe has denied that he and his family were evicted from their lavish home in Sea Point, Cape Town.

In a recent interview with Podcast and Chill with MacG, he denied the reports of the notice, despite News24 having seen the documents in which the Western Cape High Court granted an order to evict him from the apartment.

"For three years, I stayed there [with] no problems. They tried to extort me out of R300,000. I said no. A dispute began at that point over a year ago. That dispute evolved into gunmen breaking into my house, all types of court cases, and now they are taking pictures of my daughter and publishing them online. I'm truly in a fight," he said in the interview.

Earlier this year, a representative of the Italy-based property owner (where Phat Joe and family were staying) told News24 that the landlord decided to start the couple's eviction process because the couple stopped paying rent in November 2022 and avoided their lawyer's letters.

"They were good tenants but didn't always pay on time. There were moments when he [Phat Joe] said he was waiting for payments from DStv, and the rent was paid late. Then, all of a sudden, they stopped paying and said they were experiencing financial difficulties in September 2022," the representative previously told News24.

In the interview with Podcast and Chill, Phat Joe admitted that a sheriff was sent to his home, but he also said none of his belongings were taken.

"What we did was in March, we were beating them in court. They asked us for a settlement. We agreed to the settlement. The settlement was we would vacate the place at the end of May or by 1 June. Then, both parties, through our lawyers, went to the High Court and made it an order of the court. There was no eviction. They said we were kicked out on the streets. That's not true as well."

When News24 reached out for comment, the radio personality labelled it "an attempt to defame him."

"This person, along with their family and accomplices, has resorted to threats and fraudulent attempts to extort R267 000 from me by making false claims and misleading the courts," the former Real Goboza presenter said in a statement he told News24 could only use if it revealed its source.

"This is an ongoing legal matter, encompassing several civil and criminal cases, including assault, that we have tried to keep private."
